When my son was 5, he was very anxious about having blood drawn for his tests (which were many) and having to access his chemo port to give him his treatment. The nurse my son was assigned to suggested that we get help from one of the pediatric specialists at the hospital. She suggested helping him take deep breaths and also a device called a BuzzyBee. It’s a device that vibrates and looks like a little bee. When they were going to access his port, we would give it to him and turn it on and he would get distracted by the little bee. Having someone come up to the port was a point of anxiety for him and he didn’t like it. The little bee helped him to distract himself and feel something else while they were doing this.
