N.E.G.U.

N.E.G.U. It means Never Ever Give UP. It is an organization that we came across thanks to the hospital where my son was receiving his treatment at Children’s Hospital. This organization was inspired by a girl named Jessie Joy Rees. She started what is called ‘Joy Jars’ which are a large jar full of things and toys for a child who is going through cancer treatment Its purpose is to give them something to bring happiness and distraction.

When my son received his first jar at the hospital, it gave him great joy and something else to focus his attention on while he was at his appointment that day. We registered him on the website as the paper they gave us said to and from then on he received a new jar with new things every month. On his birthday he received a large box with many other things such as t-shirts, blankets, a stuffed animal and more toys. Although it may seem superficial to many people, this helped my son mentally deal with his struggle a lot. Every time he received a new jar in the mail, he became excited and made him want to continue fighting.
